Spencer Leek, LMT #16735
Massage Therapist Spencer Leek specializes in Myofascial Release Therapy. He comes to PNH from the Frida Center for Fibromyalgia in the Sylvan area. Spencer was drawn to PNH by their excellent team and location – close to his home in the Hawthorne neighborhood.Spencer’s career path began with a B.S. in Biology from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. He then moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he worked in internet marketing for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and volunteered as an EMT.
Spencer moved back to his hometown of Nashville, TN where he became a personal trainer and went to massage therapy school. His last class at massage school was Myofascial Release Therapy, and he immediately knew he’d found his calling.
Spencer became an Expert Therapist in the John Barnes method of Myofasical Release Therapy (MFR) after using the technique exclusively for more than 4 years and taking over 250 hours of training, including working in John Barnes’ clinic in Sedona, AZ. MFR is a technique that includes sustained holds for up to 5 minutes. The technique also incorporates freedom of movement (unwinding) and a gentle rocking (rebounding). Unlike traditional massage therapy, MFR allows patients to release fascial restrictions created by trauma, scarring, and chronic holding patterns. MFR therapists see fascia not only as muscles and connective tissue but also as a lattice that encompasses all our tissue and organs.
Outside of work, Spencer enjoys rock climbing with his fiancée, volunteering with the Mazamas Mountaineering Club, relaxing in the backyard with his dog, and biking around Portland.
