Clinic Director, Nutrition Therapist.
Maria received her Nutrition Therapist Practitioner certification in 2007 and has been working since that time with Dr. Greg Nigh. She is responsible for patient education and implementation of the unique ketogenic diet used in the cancer treatment programs delivered by Immersion Health. Maria is extremely knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the calorie restricted ketogenic diet and its implementation with cancer patients.
Maria is also a Certified GAPS Practitioner. GAPS, or Gut and Psychology Syndrome, is an intensive program developed by Dr. Natasha McBride, a neurosurgeon in England. The diet is designed to restore the integrity of the digestive tract, prevent intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”), and ultimately heal the blood brain barrier. This therapy is used to reduce symptoms of autism, depression, anxiety, and even schizophrenia, in addition to relieving digestive problems. She has worked with hundreds of individuals on implementing the GAPS diet, in addition to teaching classes and leading support groups.
Maria is one of the country’s most experienced nutrition therapists when it comes to working with cancer patients. She and Dr. Nigh have collaborated since 2008 in the treatment of cancer and other diseases with a combination of naturopathic therapies and targeted therapeutic diets. Maria has worked in collaboration with several other PNH practitioners as well, offering focused dietary guidance in support of their overall treatment program.
Maria continues to write guides that lead patients, as effortlessly as possible, through various therapeutic diets. She has extensive experience with a wide range of therapeutic diets, including low sulfur, low histamine, low polyamine, low FODMAPS and many others. Working with clinic physicians who order and interpret appropriate testing and prescribe a targeted nutrient program, Maria helps each patient implement whichever diet is the most appropriate for their individual health needs.
Maria’s extensive clinical experience working with a wide range of patients and conditions makes her among the most knowledgeable and sought-out nutrition therapists in the country.
