Carolyn Taylor, LMT
Carolyn Taylor is a compassionate, skilled, and intuitive massage therapist. In her practice, she uses an integrative approach to healing and tailors her treatment (including the depth of pressure applied) to her clients’ needs, preferences, and muscular presentation. While she’s known for her Deep Tissue work, many clients have commented on Carolyn’s gentle touch, an intuitive touch which helps guide clients—even in their most fragile physical state—through a course of treatment.
In addition to her unique, self-developed massage methods, Carolyn combines various Eastern and Western healing techniques to achieve optimal results. Most visits with Carolyn include some form of energy work and treatment with specially-prepared “aromatherapy mists.“ Because Carolyn is attune to her client’s needs, she uses organic, hypoallergenic massage oils (when oil is required) and natural essential oils and floral waters in her mists to enhance her clients’ sense of well-being.
Carolyn’s love of massage began as a child (through bedtime back rubs provided by her mother). As a teenager she began researching the fields of massage, natural medicine, and metaphysics while practicing massage on her friends and loved ones. Following her high school graduation, Carolyn spent time abroad before deciding to pursue formal studies in massage therapy.
Carolyn graduated from Oregon School of Massage (OSOM) in 2003 and received her license in April, 2004. During her time at OSOM, she pursued electives in the following massage styles: Swedish, Shiatsu, Thai, Trigger Point, Reiki, and Polarity. She also worked as a waitress and a caregiver for the elderly while enrolled in massage school. In June, 2004 she began working as an independent contractor in the acupuncture clinic at The Providence Milwaukie Healing Place. There, she treated clients who’d sustained injuries in motor vehicle accidents and those who’d suffered workplace injuries.
In 2006, Carolyn officially began her private practice at The Golden Heart Wellness Clinic in Sellwood (now called Elixia). There, she continued treating motor vehicle accident clients in addition to her regular clientele, many of whom sought her services for pain relief, relaxation, or preventative care. 2008 was a time of transition at The Golden Heart wellness center, though, and Carolyn decided to make the leap to Natural Choices Clinic, or what is now called Portland Natural Health, where she has settled and built her practice.
Continuing education has always been important to Carolyn, and she continues to augment her formal massage education with workshops focusing on myofascial techniques, Ortho-Bionomy, cupping, Gua Sha (instrument-assisted massage), and Abhyanga (an Ayurvedic oil massage). A firm believer in the power of bodywork, Carolyn receives massage treatments from her colleagues on a regular basis to help keep her muscles healthy.
In 2007, Carolyn became the first massage therapist to treat members of the Rose City Rollers league (she’d previously worked with the Guns N Rollers team as their personal massage therapist). She’s also worked with dragon boat racers, marathon runners, dancers, and other athletes.
